Dr. Chris Rothman and Dr. John Roberson : Advanced Life Support for Dentistry (ALSD) Part I

Dr. Rothman and Dr. Roberson speak on Advanced Life Support for Dentistry in Naples, Florida, 12:00 - 4:00 pm Central Standard Time. This course will train, prepare and organize dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants & dental front office to recognize, treat and hopefully prevent medical emergencies including those related to sedation and anesthesia.
- Recognize and discuss management of common medical emergencies including those related to sedation and various forms of anesthesia
- Discuss potential complications of drugs used in sedation and various forms of anesthesia
- Recognize adverse reactions to drugs and implement appropriate interventions,
- Describe emergency equipment such Automated External Defibrillators (AED), Vital Sign Monitors, Airway adjuncts, etc.
- Describe all contents within the emergency drug kit and know their uses
- Demonstrate airway management and rescue techniques
- Recognize and treat any potential medical emergency situations
- Know how to administer medications via IM/IO routes
- Thorough understanding of medical emergency planning, documentation and implementation
- Participate and become proficient at all Skills Stations
- Patient physical and medical evaluation,
- Overview of complications of sedation and anesthesia
- Patient monitoring techniques
- Review of anatomy of the airway,
- Thorough review of Emergency Drug Kit developed for dentists
- Thorough review of an Emergency Airway Kit for dentists
- Review of emergency equipment needed within your office
- Principals of airway management
- Airway and emergency management algorithms
- Review of office Medical Emergency Plan
- Evaluation methods (written/online testing),
- Office preparation, armamentarium, prevention and treatment of emergencies and emergency algorithms for common emergencies
- Review of medical emergency planning, implementation and documentation
- Participation in all Skills Testing Station to improve proficiency
