8/26/2009 - Emergency Medical Plan for Dentists bill becomes LAW in Illinois

The Illinois Legislature passed into law HB 921 which states each dental office must develop and implement a written emergency medical plan, which shall include staff responsibilities and office protocol for emergency procedures.

Amends the Illinois Dental Practice Act. Provides that each dental office in the State must develop and implement a written emergency medical plan, and provides that the plan must include staff responsibilities and office protocol for emergency procedures (instead of must include, without limitation, recognized training standards on emergency procedures).

Requires all dental offices that administer anesthesia or sedation to contain at least one AED on the premises at all times. Provides that the owner of a dental office is responsible for complying with these requirements.

Governor Pat Quinn signed HB 921 into law on August 26, 2009.

All dentists in the state of Illinois must be in compliance effective January 1, 2010.
