Testimonials

"LDA/LDS is extremely proud to endorse IMEP's Emergency Response System (ERS).  The ERS is a product that can be a positive benefit for every dental office in .  The ERS provides a necessary source of information to not only prepare the doctor and office staff personnel for the treatment of a medical emergency, should one occur, but it also provides a readiness plan to maintain a high level of ability within the Staff rendering the necessary emergency care.  We must face the fact that none of us can predict when a medical emergency might occur, but you and your staff can be prepared with IMEP's Emergency Response System (ERS)."

Dr. Rich Corley

"Because of the nature of what we do everyday, it is imperative to be prepared for the unexpected. Integration of new employees is very easy. Training reports and record keeping is invaluable because we are able to prove we are prepared. It is very comforting to our patients because they know we are prepared with the Emergency Response System."

Karen Medina
Office Manager for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Scott Heitzmann

"Thank you for putting this together. It has been sitting on my 'to do' list and somehow it has never really materialized. Many times I've had the time to sit down and put bits and pieces of it together. But that's just what I had...bits and pieces. It's well worth the investment for the time it saves me and my staff. Now, we can concentrate on actually being prepared for an emergency and not on preparing to prepare for an emergency."

Dr. Michelle Weddle

"I have been writing and speaking on the subject of emergency medicine for over 30 years and a critical part of the course has always been a discussion of what needs to be done for a dental office to be prepared to respond during a crisis. A recently developed product can help you to prepare your office for such an event.

"The Emergency Response System (ERS) by the Institute of Medical Emergency Preparedness (IMEP) is focused on patient safety, and represents a comprehensive, structured medical emergency preparedness program for the entire dental team. The ERS makes response to medical emergencies an ongoing process so that you get repetitive exposure on a regular basis.

"In fact, I think so much of the Emergency Response System that I have included it in my emergency medicine programs as well as including it in the 6th edition of my text Handbook of Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office.

"Whether we like it or not, no one can ever predict when a medical crisis will occur in our office. A medical emergency can be a life-changing event for you, your staff and more importantly, your patient! If you and your office aren't prepared when an emergency arises chaos will surely ensue, followed by panic, which leads to your forgetting life-saving procedures and protocols, further compromising a life!

"Start today by preparing your dental office with the help of ERS".

Dr. Stanley F. Malamed

"I got the Emergency Response System after learning about it at the Hinman. It's a great resource and training aid. The training is systematic, simplistic, and thorough. I can easily integrate new employees into the emergency response team. My staff loves it! We are much more confident and have an organized response to handle emergencies."

Dr. T. Allen Kirby

"When measures exist that can prevent a tragedy from occurring, whether in a doctors/dentist office or some other business, and those preventative measures are not taken or are simply ignored, it makes it much more difficult for us to defend, from a liability standpoint, against the attack of "why weren't you prepared when you could have and should have been?" This law firm specializes in medical malpractice defense and professional liability defense.

We implemented the Emergency Response System into our practice last year and it has been a great teaching and training tool. It makes integrating new staff members into the team easy and has made our entire office more confident and comfortable treating medical emergencies. The continuing education is a great value. We don't have to take time out of the office to travel to courses. The monthly mock drills, checklist and alerts remind us to check all our equipment and drugs, ensuring we are ready in the event of an emergency.

"Having you and your staff professionally prepared to handle the unexpected medical emergency is the only way to run a truly responsible medical or dental office. Hoping that something bad will never happen is not a good plan. If you take care of enough patients, you will eventually have to face an emergency. When it happens, you and your staff must be ready to react and must know how to handle the situation. Speaking as an Anesthesiologist, preparation is the key to life. Be prepared with the Emergency Response System."

Dr. Lee Elliot
Anesthesiologist

"If you didn't have a medical emergency experience at work, consider yourself and your office lucky. If you don't have a plan, after reading the cover feature (Are You Ready?) and clinical feature articles this month, I encourage you to talk to your employer and your team and put a plan into place. The recent sad news of the accidental death of five-year-old Diamond Brownbridge following anesthesia for a dental procedure emphasizes that it is important that you protect your patients, the office team, and that the office is not exposed to a potential liability, if something occurs and the emergency becomes a tragedy."

"When a medical emergency occurs, it will not be just a doctor problem or a "back office" problem but rather an entire office problem. Each person will play a role in ensuring the safety of that patient! The response to a crisis should be a well-coordinated event that has the goal of everyone performing at the best of their ability under such a stressful time. The role of the office manager is crucial because he or she must make sure, first of all, a plan has been developed and then second, everyone knows their role. An office without a plan for handling a medical emergency is on a collision course for failure. When dealing with patient care & safety, failure is not an option."

Heather Colicchio
President
Amercian Association of Dental Office Managers (AADOM)

"The key is knowing what to do, remaining calm, and making a decision to act. You can make a difference in critical moments by remembering four important steps: prevent, prepare, recognize, act."

"Being an Emergency Room Physician, I am dealing with emergencies everyday. That is what I do. The office-based practitioner when confronted with a medical emergency will have to treat the emergency until someone arrives to assist them and transport the patient to an Emergency Room. It is your duty to be the utmost prepared and ready for that emergency when it happens. Life-threatening emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest or anaphylaxis will have to be treated by you in the office in order for that patient to survive. Do not expect the EMS to be parked out in your parking lot waiting for your call. Until they arrive, you will have to maintain and sustain the life of that patient. I can not begin to stress how important it is to remain calm and act quickly when confronted with a medical emergency."

Dr. Arthur Pancioli
Vice Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine
University of Cincinnati and NIH Stroke Team Member

"As an ICU/ER nurse, I have to say this (the Emergency Response System) is long overdue and fascinating to say the least. I can't even count the number of patients I've had that would probably still be here if only people had been prepared."
